Take it out, shake it firmly outside to release dust and grit. For a deeper clean: beat it lightly on a hard surface, then vacuum. Wipe surface spots with a barely damp cloth. Never soak it, never machine wash — sisal releases what it traps; it just needs encouragement.
Sisal is a natural fibre from the agave plant, imported from Tanzania. Unlike rubber (which smells and shifts dust), coir (which sheds and smells when wet), or jute (which degrades in humidity), sisal traps dust in its weave structure, is naturally odourless, and lasts 5+ years with minimal care. It’s the material luxury car brands used before rubber became the cheap shortcut.
No — sisal is naturally odourless. No rubber chemicals, no adhesives, no synthetic coating. During monsoon: if the mat gets damp, remove it, shake it out, and let it air dry flat in the shade. Do not leave it wet and folded. It will dry without any smell or damage.
Brief moisture exposure is fine — your shoes bring in rain, that’s expected. If the mat gets heavily soaked, remove it and let it dry flat in a shaded, ventilated spot. Avoid prolonged soaking or machine washing. Once dry, it returns to its original form. Sisal is resilient — it’s grown outdoors, after all.
Boucle has a looped, cushioned weave — softer underfoot, refined and quiet. Tiger Eye has a tighter diagonal weave that catches dust aggressively — our best-seller, sharpest looking.
